My name is Erinn, I am an independent author and entrepreneur with years of experience as a forensic scientists.
Ever since Cheryl Tiegs called Ashley Graham “unhealthy”, I have been asking myself: “What is healthy?” Obesity is an epidemic. I know you’ve heard this before. But what is obesity? HBO’s Weight of the Nation explains obese or overweight as the weight range above what is medically accepted as healthy based on your Body Mass Index (BMI). A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight and a BMI of 30 or more is considered obese; and having a BMI within this range increases the likelihood of developing conditions such as hypertension and heart disease.
But what about those of us that are categorized as “obese” or “overweight” with cholesterol and blood pressure levels that consistently show that we are healthy? Is the number on the scale the only indication of health? Healthy to me is feeling good in your body, mind and spirit. I, and many other overweight and obese people can tell you, body image issues negatively affect your body, mind and spirit causing emotional pain, anxiety, and depression. And isn’t emotional pain, anxiety and depression unhealthy?
